Rural Health Research Dissemination – Cooperative Agreement
Agencies
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
Description
This announcement solicits applications for the Rural Health Research Dissemination Cooperative Agreement, formerly known as the Rural Research to Diverse Audiences Cooperative Agreement. The purpose of the Rural Health Research Dissemination Program is to disseminate and market policy-oriented information for use by diverse audiences such as rural stakeholders at national, state, and community levels and policy decision-makers to inform and raise awareness of issues regarding policy implications, access, quality and status of health care delivery, services, and management on behalf of rural communities. Key policy issues cover a variety of policy-oriented topics such as, but not limited to, access to health care for the under- and uninsured, health care quality and outcomes, home health, rural health clinics, racial and ethnic disparities, and many others. The information includes the body of research, as funded by ORHP, for all Rural Health Research Centers (RHRCs) and is designed to help decision-makers and policy analysts concerned with a variety of rural health issues at national, state, and community levels better understand the problems rural communities face in assuring access to health care and promoting good health for their members. While RHRCs disseminate their own analyses, rural audiences need and benefit from summary information on the entire body of work as funded by the Office of Rural Health Policy (ORHP) for all RHRCs.
This is a four year activity. At the end of each year, the progress report submitted to the ORHP Research Coordinator should include an evaluation for applicable metrics to determine the impact of the annual project activities. Throughout the entire project period, the Rural Health Research website and the Listserv must be developed and kept up-to-date by adding newly funded ORHP research projects and including changes in status of previous

Climate Change Education Partnership Alliance Office (CCEPA Office)
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
In FY 2012, NSF funded six Phase II Climate Change Education Partnership (CCEP-II) projects. The PI's, Co-PI's and significant partners of the six CCEP-II projects constitute the CCEP "network". The lead PI's for the six projects comprise the CCEP Alliance (CCEPA), which will convene on a regular basis in order to identify common needs and opportunities for collaboration across the CCEP network. Key to the success of this networked approach is the creation of a CCEP Alliance Office (CCEPA Office), which will: facilitate communication among the projects participating within the CCEP-II network; enable and nurture cross-project coordination and collaboration, such as assisting with data collection for a program-wide evaluation undertaken by NSF; and, support dissemination of resources developed by the CCEP-II network to the larger scientific community and the public. The CCEPA Office is also expected to foster coordination of CCEP-II activities with the larger climate change education community.

Continental Scientific Drilling Coordination Office for the Division of Earth Sciences (CSDCO)
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
The Division of Earth Sciences (EAR) at the National Science Foundation (NSF) requests proposals from interested groups to support current and future continental scientific drilling activities. We request proposals for the establishment of a Continental Scientific Drilling Coordination Office (CSDCO) that will help coordinate planning for continental scientific drilling projects, in collaboration with the Earth science community, and will have the capability to supply continental scientific drilling support and expertise for NSF-funded research.
The CSDCO may work with the commercial drilling community or other drilling organizations to determine the type and availability of drilling services that may be available for NSF-funded scientific projects that require continental drilling. The CSDCO, if requested by the PI of the scientific project, may assist with the development of requests for bids to provide the drilling services. The CSDCO is expected to play a proactive role in the community to encourage innovation in drilling technologies and methods in response to community needs and will help guide the development of new drilling designs as requested by the research community.
The successful proponent will be expected to manage drilling activities for the US scientific community, as needed. Requirements for drilling activities will be derived both from long-range science plans developed by the community as well as research proposals funded by NSF. We encourage collaborations with international partners such as the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) and with scientists funded by other sources. The CSDCO will be capable of assisting in the planning and execution of all aspects of the drilling activities that EAR supports.
Interested parties must propose to this solicitation with a plan to provide for these services under a single award. The CSDCO award will be administered as a Cooperative Agreement with an anticipated duration of up to five-years beginning on October 1, 2013. A mid-term management review will be required, which will guide a decision to re-compete or renew the Cooperative Agreement for up to a further five-year period.

Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU)
Description
The Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards provide seed money for research by junior faculty at Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) member institutions. These awards are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities.
Eligibility
Full-time assistant professors at ORAU member institutions within two years of their initial tenure track appointment at the time of application are eligible. If there is a question on eligibility, the ORAU Councilor makes the final decision.
Technical Areas
The research project must be in one of the following five disciplines:
Engineering and Applied Science
Life Sciences
Mathematics/Computer Sciences
Physical Sciences
Policy, Management, or Education
Number of Submissions
Each ORAU member councilor may submit up to two applications each year.
Funding Source and Duration
Funding is provided exclusively from non-federal monies by ORAU. The award amount provided by ORAU is $5,000. The applicant’s institution is required to match the award with at least an additional $5,000. This is a one-year grant (June 1 to May 31).
Funding Restrictions
This award can include funds for faculty summer salary, graduate student salary, travel, equipment, or other assistance relevant to the faculty member’s research. ORAU does not allow overhead charges or indirect costs on the award from ORAU or the university match.
Research Collaborations
Applicants are encouraged to develop research collaborations with government, private-sector, and other academic researchers. Such alliances enrich and extend not only the reach of your efforts, but the nation’s research enterprise, overall.
Because of the close working relationship between ORAU and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the Award Committee particularly encourages collaborative interaction with ORNL. Thus, substantive interdisciplinary research and inter-institutional research partnerships will be considered as very positive factors in the review process, and will increase chances for success.
Diverse Participant Population
ORAU is committed to the promotion of underrepresented groups in science and engineering.
Selection Process
Application reviews will be coordinated by ORAU councilors and conducted by scholars with expertise in the discipline of the application. Each application will receive three independent reviews. Final selection of awardees will be made by the ORAU Policy Committee.
Reporting
A final one- to two-page report must be submitted within one year of receipt of the award.

Title
Nominate Graduate Students to the 63rd Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
The Department of Energy (DOE), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF) are pleased to announce that they will nominate and sponsor a maximum of 56 graduate students to attend the 63rd annual meeting of Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany, from June 30 through July 5, 2013. We invite your institution to nominate up to two students for each sponsor to be considered for this very exciting opportunity.
Since 1951, Nobel Prize winners and students in chemistry, physics, and physiology or medicine have met annually in Lindau, located on Lake Constance in southwestern Germany. It is anticipated that some 550 students from more than 70 countries will attend the weeklong meeting in 2013. There are formal lectures in the morning, and the remainder of the day is set aside for the students to meet informally with the Nobel Laureate scientists, as well as with their fellow students from around the world. Information on the most recent meeting and comments from students who attended are available at http://www.orau.org/lindau/past-mtgs/default.shtml.
In 2013, the meeting will feature recipients of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. You may nominate students to attend this meeting who:
• are U.S. citizens currently enrolled at a university as full-time graduate students;
• have completed by June 2013 at least two academic years of graduate studies toward a doctoral degree in chemistry or in a related discipline, but not be planning a dissertation/thesis defense before December 31, 2013;
• be supported by and/or working on a project, grant, or fellowship sponsored by the DOE Office of Science (DOE-SC), NIH (NCI, NIAAA, NIDCR, NIEHS, or NIGMS only), or the NSF Directorate for Mathematical & Physical Sciences (NSF-MPS).
We are especially interested in receiving nominations from a diverse group of students, including women, minorities and people with disabilities.
DOE, NIH, and NSF are accepting a maximum total of six nominations, and will again partner this year with ORAU and Mars, Incorporated. Those organizations are separately announcing their nomination processes, but will also each accept two nominations as well. Please check http://www.orau.org/lindau for specific eligibility criteria of each sponsor.
The selection process for the Lindau Meeting occurs over three phases. The universities and National Laboratories complete the first phase by selecting up to two students per sponsor and submitting the nomination packet for each student. DOE, NIH, and NSF complete phase two by selecting the students to nominate to the Lindau Meeting. The final phase of selection is completed by the Lindau Meeting and its screening process. All three phases ultimately adhere to the Lindau Meeting’s selection criteria.
All nominations must be submitted online before Friday, December 14, 2012 at 4:00 pm, Eastern Time. Nominees will be notified by January 31, 2013 whether they have been selected. An information sheet on the program is enclosed. Further information about the program, including the Web site for submission of nominations, can be found online beginning at http://www.orau.org/lindau/.
