EarthScope - SAFOD Management Office (SMO)
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
EarthScope is an Earth science program to explore the four-dimensional structure of the North American continent. The EarthScope Program provides a framework for broad, integrated studies across the Earth sciences, including research on fault properties and the earthquake process, strain transfer, magmatic and hydrous fluids in the crust and mantle, plate boundary processes, large-scale continental deformation, continental structure and evolution, and composition and structure of the deep Earth. In addition, EarthScope offers a centralized forum for Earth science education at all levels and an excellent opportunity to develop cyberinfrastructure to integrate, distribute, and analyze diverse data sets.
The EarthScope Facility, consisting of the Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO), the San Andreas Fault Observatory at Depth (SAFOD), and USArray, is a multi-purpose array of instruments and observatories that greatly expands the observational capabilities of the Earth sciences and permits us to advance our understanding of the structure, evolution, and dynamics of the North American continent.
This Solicitation invites single or collaborative proposals for a new SAFOD Management Office (SMO). The SMO will ensure that SAFOD is operated, managed, and maintained in a manner that facilitates ongoing use of SAFOD for independent PI-driven Earth science research.

Title
Advancing Digitization of Biodiversity Collections (ADBC)
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
This program seeks to enhance and expand the national resource of digital data documenting existing vouchered biological and paleontological collections and to advance scientific knowledge by improving access to digitized information (including images) residing in vouchered scientific collections across the United States. The information associated with various collections of organisms, such as geographic, paleogeographic and stratigraphic distribution, environmental habitat data, phenology, information about associated organisms, collector field notes, and tissues and molecular data extracted from the specimens, is a rich resource providing the baseline from which to further biodiversity research and provide critical information about existing gaps in our knowledge of life on earth. The national resource is structured at three levels: a central coordinating organization, a series of thematic networks based on an important research theme, and the physical collections. The national resource builds upon a sizable existing national investment in curation of the physical objects in scientific collections and contributes vitally to scientific research and technology interests in the United States. It will become an invaluable tool in understanding contemporary biological issues and challenges.

National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Description
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)/ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invites grant applications for Education and Research Centers (ERC) that are focused on occupational safety and health training and research training. NIOSH is mandated to provide an adequate supply of qualified personnel to carry out the purposes of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the ERCs are one of the principal means for meeting this mandate. ERCs are academic institutions that provide interdisciplinary graduate training and continuing education in the core occupational safety and health areas of industrial hygiene (IH), occupational health nursing (OHN), occupational medicine residency (OMR), occupational safety (OS), as well as other closely related occupational safety and health (OSH) fields. Research and research training are integral components of ERCs, thus ERC scientists conduct peer reviewed, investigator initiated research on issues related to the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA).

Center for Genomic Studies on Mental Disorders (U24)
Agencies
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Description
Through this FOA the NIMH seeks Resource-Related Cooperative Agreement (U24) applications to continue, enhance, and enrich research resources in the NIMH Human Genetics Initiative for free and open sharing with the scientific community. The long-term objective of data sharing and research resource enrichment under this FOA is to accelerate gene discovery in mental disorders. It is expected that the Center will be comprised of a team of investigators with expertise in molecular biology, cell culture, computer and information sciences, statistical genetics and psychiatric genetics. It is also expected that this effort will involve activities at multiple institutions that are strategically and functionally coordinated such that the Center will function as a single, national resource. A critical feature of the Center will be the banking of primary cultures of source cells for the derivation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and the banking of established iPSCs by investigators. Furthermore, the development and maintenance of a genomic cyber-infrastructure is required. Such an infrastructure will represent the coordinated aggregate of software, hardware and other technologies, as well as the necessary staff expertise required to support current and future discoveries in the genetics of mental disorders. This cyber-infrastructure will integrate relevant and often disparate genetic and genomic resources to provide a useful, usable, and enabling framework for human genetic research and gene discovery in mental disorders that will be characterized by broad access.

National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Description
The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) encourages Research Conference Grant (R13) applications to conduct health disparities-related meetings, workshops, and symposia. The purpose of the Academic-Community Partnership Conference Series is to bring together academic institutions/organizations and community organizations to identify opportunities for addressing health disparities through the use of Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR). The objectives of meetings conducted as part of this award will be to: (1) establish and/or enhance academic-community partnerships; (2) identify community-driven research priorities, and (3) develop long-term collaborative CBPR research agendas. Thus, it is expected these partnerships will lead to grant applications for the support of CBPR projects designed to meet identified community needs. The areas of focus for these partnerships may include one or more of the following community-health issues: infant mortality; Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS); fibroid tumors; childhood, adolescent, and/or adult obesity; health literacy; techniques for outreach and information dissemination; pediatric and maternal HIV/AIDS prevention; and violence prevention.
