Agencies
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Description
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for the Pediatric Centers of Excellence in Nephrology (PCEN) to support both basic and clinical research on pediatric kidney disease. The emphases for this program are several-fold: (1) to continue to attract new scientific expertise into the study of human pediatric physiology and kidney disorders in humans and in disease models; (2) to encourage multidisciplinary research in these areas; 3) to explore new areas with translational potential and 4) to design Developmental Research (DR)/Pilot and Feasibility (P and F) studies which should lead to new and innovative approaches to study kidney disease in the pediatric population, and the eventual submission of competitive investigator-initiated R01 research grant applications. These Centers complement the O’Brien Kidney and Urological Research Centers. Information about the current NIDDK supported Centers may be found at the following URL: hhttp://www.niddk.nih.gov/about-niddk/research-areas/research-centers/Pages/research-centers.aspx.

Conference for Early Stage HIV/AIDS Vaccine Researchers (R13)
Agencies
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Description
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages Research Conference Grant (R13) applications to conduct intensive workshop/conference/meeting(s) that address the needs of early stage HIV/AIDS vaccine researchers as they translate preclinical research from nonhuman primates (NHPs) to human clinical trials. The objectives of the meeting supported by this FOA are to provide these early stage HIV/AIDS vaccine researchers with guidance on conducting preclinical research to inform HIV vaccine strategies for clinical trials and developing skills related to networking, work-life balance, grantsmanship, and goal/milestone-oriented projects. Conference topics should include, but not be limited to: critical aspects of human vaccine development, including statistical considerations, host genetics and others; methods to translate the results of NHP challenge studies to clinical trials in humans; and methods to develop milestone-driven projects.

Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE)
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) is an NSF-wide program that supports international activities across all NSF-supported disciplines. The primary goal of PIRE is to support high quality projects in which advances in research and education could not occur without international collaboration. PIRE seeks to catalyze a higher level of international engagement in the U.S. science and engineering community.
International partnerships are essential to addressing critical science and engineering problems. In the global context, U.S. researchers and educators must be able to operate effectively in teams with partners from different national environments and cultural backgrounds. PIRE promotes excellence in science and engineering through international collaboration and facilitates development of a diverse, globally-engaged, U.S. science and engineering workforce.
This PIRE competition will be open to all areas of science and engineering research which are supported by the NSF.

Title
Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute for Reducing EMbodied-energy And Decreasing Emissions (REMADE) in Materials Manufacturing
Agencies
United States Department of Energy (DOE)
Description
Department of Energy (DOE)
Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE)
Reducing EMbodied-energy And Decreasing Emissions (REMADE) in Materials Manufacturing is the topic of this Manufacturing Innovation Institute. As the consumption of materials grows, the embodied energy and greenhouse gas emissions footprint associated with the production of these materials is becoming increasingly important. Most of the energy consumption within the energy-intensive subsectors of manufacturing is used in converting raw materials for ultimate use in end products.26,27,28 Analysis demonstrates that significant energy, cost and materials resources could be saved through technologies that drive improvements in the efficiency of materials re-use during the manufacturing process. Technologies to enable the recycling, reuse and remanufacturing of materials would recover the embodied energy of end-of-life (EOL) and waste materials and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The energy needed to economically reprocess materials into secondary feedstock must be at a minimum less than the energy required to produce primary feedstock in order to realize net-energy savings. Materials-efficient processes and secondary/recycled feedstocks must be cost-competitive with current manufacturing approaches to enable private sector adoption– and should be targeted at multiple stages within the lifecycle of materials.
Questions about this FOA? Email CEMII-REMADE@ee.doe.gov
Problems with EERE Exchange? Email EERE- EERE-ExchangeSupport@hq.doe.gov Include FOA name and number in
subject line.
8
Specifically, the technologies to be developed in a REMADE Institute are expected to provide significant and quantifiable benefits to commercially relevant materials manufacturing, through:
• Improved embodied-energy efficiency (% change in BTU/kg of product)
• Improved material efficiency (% material loss)
• Reduction in operating expense ($/kg of product)
• Reduction in capital expense ($/kg of product per day)
• Reduction in primary material (kg of primary feedstock/kg of product)
• Waste reduction (% loss of feedstock throughout process)

Submission Limits
An entity may only submit one Concept Paper and one Full Application for consideration under this FOA. For example, EERE will only consider one Concept Paper and one Full Application per university for this FOA (not one submission per each college or school under the university). This limitation does not prohibit an Applicant from collaborating on other applications (e.g., as a potential Subrecipient or partner) so long as the entity is only listed as the Prime Applicant on one Concept Paper and Full Application submitted under this FOA.
Cost Sharing:
The cost share must be at least 50% of the total allowable costs under the award (i.e., the sum of the Government share, including FFRDC costs if applicable, and the recipient share of allowable costs equals the total allowable cost of the project) and must come from non-Federal sources unless otherwise allowed by law. (See 2 CFR 200.306 and 2 CFR 910.130 for the applicable cost sharing requirements.)

Agencies
U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)
Description
The selected training and technical assistance provider will work with OJJDP under the terms of the cooperative agreement to develop a process by which at least two of the nine states are selected to receive training and technical assistance. State selection criteria may include, but is not limited to the following:
ï‚· A training, technical assistance, and evaluation framework to ensure consistency and quality of service delivery.
ï‚· A projected plan for onsite technical assistance visits.
ï‚· A semi-annual report detailing training and technical assistance provided to each state.
The program narrative should reflect how the applicant will accomplish these activities. Subsequent deliverables may be developed annually according to need and funding ability. When the project ends, OJJDP will require the awardee to transfer products to OJJDP.
Applicants should be realistic in estimating the cost of deliverables and in detailing the implementation schedule. OJJDP also encourages applicants to be innovative and expects them to propose alternative approaches to the delivery of training and technical assistance to maximize resources.
