Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program
Agencies
Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation
Description
Deadline: February 10, 2016
Announcement: early May 2016
The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers. Criteria for selection include an independent body of scholarship attained in the early years of their appointment (see below), and a demonstrated commitment to education, signaling the promise of continuing outstanding contributions to both research and teaching. The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program provides an unrestricted research grant of $75,000.
Eligibility
The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program is open to academic institutions in the States, Districts, and Territories of the United States of America that grant a bachelor's or higher degree in the chemical sciences, including biochemistry, materials chemistry, and chemical engineering. Nominees must hold a full-time tenure-track academic appointment, and are normally expected to have been appointed no earlier than mid-year 2010. Awardees are from Ph.D. granting departments in which scholarly research is a principal activity. Undergraduate education is an important component.
Selection
The Foundation seeks Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholars who demonstrate leadership in research and education. Nominations must provide compelling evidence of the advance of important knowledge in the chemical sciences by the nominee. Further, the nomination should describe dedication and contributions to education in the chemical sciences, particularly with respect to undergraduates.
The nominee's scholarly research achievements are assessed by a panel of distinguished faculty in the chemical sciences. The letters of recommendation should address the nominee's research accomplishments as an independent faculty member. Other considered factors are: awards and honors, publication of research achievements in leading journals, and success in attracting research funding.
More Information
http://www.dreyfus.org/awards/camille_dreyfus_teacher_award.shtml
Submission Limits
Institutions may submit only one Camille Dreyfus nomination annually.
Budget
The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award provides a $75,000 unrestricted research grant. Of the total amount, $7,500 is for departmental expenses associated with research and education. Charges associated with indirect costs or institutional overhead are not allowed. Defrayal of academic-year salary is not permitted. Funds are normally expended over a period of five years. Foundation approval is not required for budgetary changes after an award is made. If the awardee leaves the institution, the transfer of the remaining funds requires prior Foundation approval.

Improvements in Facilities, Communications, and Equipment at Biological Field Stations and Marine Laboratories
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
Biological Field Stations and Marine Laboratories (FSMLs) are off-campus facilities for research and education conducted in the natural habitats of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. FSMLs support environmental and basic biological research and education by preserving access to study areas and organisms, by providing facilities and equipment in close proximity to those study areas, and by fostering an atmosphere of mutual scientific interest and collaboration in research and education. To fulfill these roles, FSMLs must offer modern research and educational facilities, equipment, communications and data management for a broad array of users. In recognition of the importance of FSMLs in modern biology, NSF invites proposals that address these general goals of FSML improvement.
More Information
http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2016/nsf16506/nsf16506.htm
Submission Limits
Only one proposal may be submitted on behalf of any single facility per round of the FSML competition. This limitation does not prevent a single institution from submitting more than one proposal, as long as each proposal is submitted on behalf of a different eligible facility. This limitation is waived for one additional proposal in the event that a facility is also involved in a proposal that would improve multiple facilities.

NSF Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM)
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
The National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics program (S-STEM) addresses the need for a high quality STEM workforce in areas of national priorities. The program seeks to increase the success of low-income academically talented students with demonstrated financial need who are pursuing associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The program provides awards to Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) to fund scholarships, and to enhance and study effective curricular and co-curricular activities that support recruitment, retention, student success, and graduation in STEM. The S-STEM program encourages collaborations among different types of partners: Partnerships among different types of institutions, collaborations of STEM faculty and educational and social science researchers, or partnerships among institutions of higher education and business and industry. The program seeks: 1) to increase the number of low-income academically talented students with demonstrated financial need obtaining degrees in STEM and entering the STEM workforce or graduate study; 2) improve the education of future scientists, engineers, and technicians, with a focus on academically talented low-income students; and 3) advance understanding of the factors or curricular and co-curricular activities affecting the success of low-income students.
In this solicitation, the acronym STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics that includes biological sciences (except medicine and other clinical fields); physical sciences (including physics, chemistry, astronomy, and materials science); mathematical sciences; computer and information sciences; geosciences; engineering; and technology areas associated with the preceding disciplines (for example, biotechnology, chemical technology, engineering technology, information technology, etc.)
The S-STEM program particularly encourages proposals from 2-year institutions, Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), and urban public and rural institutions.
Students who are interested in scholarships should contact their Institution’s Office of Financial Aid to inquire about this and other scholarship opportunities. Students who are awarded S-STEM scholarships must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, nationals, or refugees.

Submission Limits
An Institution may submit one proposal (either as a single institution or as a member of a multi-institutional Design and Development consortium) from each constituent school or college that awards degrees in an eligible field. See Additional Eligibility Information below for more details.
For the S-STEM Institutional Capacity Building and Design and Development Type 1 Single Institution projects, the Principal Investigator must be a faculty member currently teaching in one of the S-STEM disciplines listed in section IV.B. who can provide the leadership required to ensure the success of the project. Projects involving more than one department within an institution are eligible, but a single Principal Investigator must accept overall management responsibility. Other members of the S-STEM project management team may be listed as Co-Principal Investigators.
For Design and Development Type 2 Multi-institutional Consortia projects, the Principal Investigator must be a faculty member currently teaching in one of the S-STEM disciplines listed in section IV.B. or an educational or social science researcher who can provide the leadership required to ensure the success of the project. A consortium project must have a Principal Investigator who accepts overall management responsibility.
