Description
Recordings at Risk is a national regranting program administered by CLIR to support the preservation of rare and unique audio, audiovisual, and other time-based media of high scholarly value through digital reformatting. Generously funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation since January 2017, the program will run nine competitions from January 2017 to April 2021 and will award a total of $4.5 million. Awards range from $10,000 to $50,000 and cover costs of preservation reformatting for fragile and/or obsolete time-based media content by qualified external service providers. Eligible media may include, but are not necessarily limited to, magnetic audio and video tape, grooved discs, wax cylinders, wire recordings, and film (with or without sound). Description
The Equipment Grants Program (EGP) serves to increase access to shared-use special purpose
equipment/instruments for fundamental and applied research for use in the food and agricultural
sciences programs at institutions of higher education, including State Cooperative Extension
Systems. The program seeks to strengthen the quality and expand the scope of fundamental and
applied research at eligible institutions, by providing them with opportunities to acquire one
shared-use piece of equipment/instrument that supports their research, research training, and
extension goals and may be too costly and/or not appropriate for support through other NIFA
grant programs. EGP grants are not intended to replace requests for equipment in individual
project applications. The program emphasizes shared-use instrumentation that will enhance the
capabilities of researchers, educators, and extension specialists both within and outside the
proposing organization.
Proposals to the EGP must involve acquisition of a single, well-integrated piece of
equipment/instrument. Well-integrated means that the ensemble of equipment that defines the
instrument enables specific fundamental or applied research experiments in the food and
agricultural sciences, including data science and data systems; separating or removing an
element or component of such an integrated instrument would preclude that research from
occurring or succeeding. An instrument acquired with support from EGP is expected to be fully
operational by the conclusion of the first year of the project.
The EGP does not support the acquisition of suites of equipment (i.e., common, general purpose
ancillary equipment) to outfit research laboratories/facilities or to conduct independent
experiments simultaneously. Similarly, the EGP does not fund common, general purpose
ancillary equipment that would normally be found in a laboratory and/or is relatively easily
procured by the organization or through other NIFA grant programs. Rather, it is intended to
help fund items of equipment that will upgrade infrastructure. Moreover, EGP does not fund
research projects, including research that uses the equipment acquired with support from the
program, nor building or modifying facilities to house the equipment.
In FY 2024, EGP will support the installation of equipment (but not the costs associated with
building or modifying facilities to house the equipment), equipment warranty for the duration of
the award, and one-time equipment use training.

Description
To encourage a commitment to breast cancer research, Breast Cancer Alliance invites clinical doctors and research scientists who are in the early stages of their careers, including post docs, whose current proposal is focused on breast cancer, to apply for funding for the Young Investigator Grant. This grant is open to applicants at institutions in the contiguous United States. This is a two-year grant for a total of $125,000, with half the grant award being paid out each year.
Applicants for the 2025 award must (i) not have held a tenure track faculty or tenure track research position for more than four years following completion of their training, as of March 1, 2025; (ii) not have been or are not a principal investigator on an NIH R01 or equivalent national/international non-mentored award as of March 1, 2025; and (iii) dedicate at least 50% of their work effort to research. This grant is intended to help advance the careers of young researchers who do not yet have their own major grant support but who design and conduct their own independent research projects.
The term of the Young Investigator Grant is two years, beginning on March 1, 2025. The grant provides salary support and project costs for a total of $125,000 (distributed over the two-year period as noted above.) Indirect costs, which are included in the $125,000 award, must be limited to 8% of total direct costs.
Prior to submission of a formal grant proposal, BCA requires a one-page Letter of Intent (LOI) and a separate CV that must be completed using the form linked here and must be submitted by midnight on March 31, 2024. The LOI must contain the applicant’s name, job title and institution at the top of the page, and the applicant’s contact information. The document should state the project title and hypothesis, outline the research aim(s) and methods, and include a brief discussion of the project’s potential impact. The CV should be in the current NIH biosketch format.
Applicants will be informed by mid-May 2024 whether they have been invited to proceed with a formal application. Researchers should coordinate with their institutions, as BCA will accept a maximum of 2 YIG LOIs per institution. References for the LOI are not required.
Full applications for the Young Investigator Grant are due on or before midnight EDT on July 19, 2024 and are by invitation only. An Independent External Review Committee reviews and evaluates the applications. Based on their results and subsequent review by the Grants Committee, recommendations will be made to the BCA Board for final approval. Applicants will be notified by mid-February 2025 of the decision regarding their proposals. Winners must submit a midterm replrt by February 28, 2026 and a final report within 60 days of February 28, 2027. Failure to submit the midterm report will result in forfeiture of any remaining grant funds. A virtual site visit with BCA staff and supporters is also required.

Limited Competition: Basic Instrumentation Grant (BIG) Program (S10 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Description
The Basic Instrumentation Grant (BIG) Program encourages applications from groups of NIH-supported investigators to purchase a single high-priced, specialized, commercially available instrument or an integrated instrumentation system.
The BIG Program is limited to institutions that have not received S10 instrumentation funding of $250,001 or greater in any of the preceding 3 Federal fiscal years (FY). Use the following to determine applicable funding periods:
for application due date of June 1, 2022, consider S10 funding in FYs 2019-2021;
for application due date of June 1, 2023, consider S10 funding in FYs 2020-2022;
for application due date of June 3, 2024, consider S10 funding in FYs 2021-2023.
The minimum award is $25,000. There is no maximum price limit for the instrument; however, the maximum award is $250,000. Instruments supported include, but are not limited to, basic cell sorters, confocal microscopes, ultramicrotomes, gel imagers, or computer systems.
