NINDS Institutional Center Core Grants to Support Neuroscience Research (P30)
Agencies
National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Description
NINDS invites applications for Center Core Grants that provide resources and facilities shared by a minimum of six NINDS-supported investigators, and supporting a wider base of neuroscience research. The proposed Centers will offer services and expertise that would be difficult or impractical to support in individual labs. The Centers are expected to capitalize on economies and synergies associated with shared resources, and to foster a collaborative environment among neuroscientists at host institutions.

George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation Operations FY 2015-FY 2019 (NEES2 Ops)
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
The George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) was established by the National Science Foundation (NSF) as a multi-user, research infrastructure for earthquake engineering research, innovation, and education through a facility construction phase during 2000-2004, followed by operations of the infrastructure to support research and education activities from October 2004 through September 2014. NEES is currently operated under a five-year NSF cooperative agreement award with Purdue University that expires on September 30, 2014. For more information about NEES, please see http://www.nees.org.
Through this solicitation, NSF provides the opportunity for the earthquake engineering community to recompete to operate the "second generation" of NEES, hereinafter referred to in this solicitation as "NEES2." Proposals are solicited by NSF's Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation to provide, manage, operate, and maintain NEES2 to support frontier earthquake engineering research, innovation, education, and workforce development for the five-year period from October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2019 [i.e., fiscal year (FY) 2015-FY 2019]. Recompeted through this solicitation for NEES2 are the following components: (a) a network-wide NEES2 management office (NMO) with the Principal Investigator (PI)/Network Director located at the lead institution, (b) four to six experimental facilities that provide the most critical and technically advanced capabilities and data needed by the earthquake engineering research community for transformative research, plus a post-earthquake, rapid response research (PERRR) facility, (c) community-driven, production-quality cyberinfrastructure, and (d) education and community outreach activities. This solicitation does not separately compete the components. Instead, it requests proposals to integrate all these components into a cohesive earthquake engineering research infrastructure for FY 2015-FY 2019. NSF intends to award one cooperative agreement to a lead institution for NEES2 operations with a start date of October 1, 2014, and a duration of up to five years.

Submission Limits
An academic institution may submit only one proposal as the lead institution; however, an academic institution may participate in more than one proposal as a non-lead institution. Full proposals involving more than one organization must be submitted as a single administrative package from the lead institution; collaborative full proposals with multiple administrative packages will not be accepted and will be returned without review. If the lead Principal Investigator (Network Director) leaves or transfers to another institution during the review process or after an award is made, the proposal/award remains with the lead institution. Additionally, the lead institution cannot be changed after submission of the full proposal. Non-academic U.S. institutions and organizations, including national laboratories and private-sector companies, as well as non-U.S. institutions, may participate in network activities using their own resources. All NEES2 facility host institutions and facilities must be located in the United States to facilitate access by NSF-supported researchers.

Description
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) invites applications for Silvio O. Conte Digestive Diseases Research Core Centers (DDRCCs). The DDRCCs are part of an integrated program of digestive and liver diseases research support provided by the NIDDK. The purpose of this Centers program is to bring together basic and clinical investigators as a means to enhance communication, collaboration, and effectiveness of ongoing research related to digestive and/or liver diseases. DDRCCs are based on the core concept, whereby shared resources aimed at fostering productivity, synergy, and new research ideas among the funded investigators are supported in a cost-effective manner. Each proposed DDRCC must be organized around a central theme that reflects the digestive or liver diseases research focus of the center members.

Next-Generation National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NG NNIN)
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
The National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN) will reach its ten year authorized award life at the end of Fiscal Year 2013. The National Science Foundation is announcing in this solicitation an open competition to establish a Next-Generation National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NG NNIN) for Fiscal Years 2014-2018.
NNIN has enabled major discoveries, innovations, and contributions to education and commerce within all disciplines of nanoscale science, engineering, and technology through NSF support of a national network of university-based user facilities. These facilities have provided open access to leading-edge nanotechnology fabrication and characterization tools, instrumentation, and expertise for users across the nation from academia, small and large industry, and government. The core mission of NNIN has included national-level education and outreach programs to enable a diverse science and engineering workforce, the study of societal and ethical implications of nanotechnology including issues of environment, health, and safety, as well as important modeling and simulation capabilities.
The new competition for the NG NNIN will build on the concept of NNIN with a much broadened scope and user base. Support is being provided by all NSF Directorates and the Office of International Science and Engineering as an integral part of the NSF investment in Nanoscale Science and Engineering.

Title
A National Repository for Geological Cores Collected in the Polar Regions
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
The Antarctic Earth Science Program in the Antarctic Sciences Section of the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Division of Polar Programs provides support for the curation and long-term storage of core material collected on the Antarctic continent and its margins. Currently, the Antarctic Marine Geology Research Facility (AMGRF) at Florida State University is fulfilling this role. The AMGRF was established in 1963 and is housed in a single-story, 10,000 sq. ft. building on the Florida State University campus. The AMGRF houses approximately 21,000 meters of deep-sea sediment cores collected from over 90 United States Antarctic Program (USAP) research cruises. In addition, the AMGRF is also a repository for nearly 3,000 meters of core collected during NSF supported drilling programs in the Antarctic. These projects include: the Dry Valleys Drilling Project, Cape Roberts Project, SHALDRIL 1 and 2, and ANDRILL 1 and 2.
In accordance with NSF policy that all facility awards must be re-competed after an appropriate period of operation (NSB-08-12 and NSB-08-16), this solicitation seeks the services of a qualified organization to provide a core curation facility and services for geological cores collected in the polar regions. The award will be administered as a Cooperative Agreement and will cover a five-year operating period beginning June 1, 2014. A programmatic review will be held prior to the completion of the initial period of support and the results will guide the decision whether to renew the Cooperative Agreement for another five-year period.

Centers for AIDS Research and Developmental Centers for AIDS Research (P30)
Agencies
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Description
This FOA encourages applications for the Centers for AIDS Research (CFAR) program to provide administrative and shared research support to enhance HIV/AIDS research. Applications are being solicited for both standard CFARs and for developmental CFARs (D-CFARs). Standard and D-CFARs provide core facilities, expertise, resources, and services not readily obtained otherwise through more traditional funding mechanisms. Additionally, D-CFARs provide support to assist investigators in the development of a competitive standard CFAR. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, especially between basic and clinical investigators, translational research between the laboratory and the clinic, inclusion of investigators from diverse backgrounds, and inclusion of prevention and behavioral change research.
