The Ethics Education in Science and Engineering (EESE) program considers proposals for research and educational projects to improve ethics education in all of the fields of science and engineering that the National Science Foundation (NSF) supports. For this year, proposals must focus on improving ethics education for graduate students in those fields, and on ethical issues that arise in research or graduate research education in those fields, particularly in interdisciplinary or inter-institutional contexts.

Description
The Undergraduate Research Collaboratives (URC) Program seeks new models and partnerships with the potential (1) to expand the reach of undergraduate research to include first- and second-year college students; (2) to broaden participation and increase diversity in the student talent pool from which the nation's future technical workforce will be drawn; and (3) to enhance the research capacity, infrastructure, and culture of participating institutions. Collectively, these outcomes will substantially strengthen the nation’s research enterprise. For this program, research should be in the chemical sciences or in interdisciplinary areas supported by the chemical sciences. Projects should allow students to create new knowledge that is potentially publishable by providing exposure to research of contemporary scientific interest that is addressed with modern research tools and methods.

Description
The objective of the Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholars Program in Aging is to support new investigators of outstanding promise in the basic biological and clinical sciences relevant to understanding aging processes and age-related diseases and disabilities. The award is intended to provide significant support to new investigators needed to permit them to become established in the field of aging. The New Scholars Program provides awards of up to $50,000 per year for a four year period for successful candidates.

Submission Limits
Invited Institutions may nominate one candidate to apply. As of March 2, 2006, nominees must hold full time appointments (tenure or non-tenure) on the faculty of the sponsoring institution and they must not have been in such an appointment, at the sponsoring institution or other institution(s), for more than three years as of July 15, 2006. Time spent in clinical internships, post-doctoral training, residencies or in work toward board certification does not count as part of the three year limit. Ellison Medical Foundation applicants may not hold other similar.

The foundation defines sustainable forestry as the practice of forestry that restores, enhances, and then sustains a full range of forest values, both ecological and economic. Other common names for this practice are ecoforestry, low-impact forestry, new forestry, and forest stewardship.

The Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS) program was created in response to a legislative mandate to "increase the numbers of underrepresented minority faculty, investigators, and students engaged in biomedical and behavioral research, and to broaden the opportunities for underrepresented minority faculty and students for participation in biomedical and behavioral research". To accomplish this goal, the Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD) program seeks to facilitate and promote, at research institutions with significant number of mentors with National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other extramural research support, the entry into biomedical or behavioral research fields of undergraduate and graduate students from groups underrepresented in these fields. The program provides institutional support for existing or innovative student development activities, including research internships, that will increase students' knowledge, skills, and information as they move to more advanced levels and ultimately attain the Ph.D. degree in biomedical or behavioral research fields.

The Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI) is designed to improve the condition of scientific and engineering equipment for research and research training in the nation's academic institutions.
This program seeks to improve the quality and expand the scope of research and research training in science and engineering, and to foster the integration of research and education by providing instrumentation for research-intensive learning environments. The MRI program encourages the development and acquisition of research instrumentation for shared inter- or intra-organizational use and in concert with private sector partners.
The MRI program assists in the acquisition or development of major research instrumentation by organizations that is, in general, too costly for support through other NSF programs. Proposals may be for a single instrument, a large system of instruments, or multiple instruments that share a common or specific research focus.

The Pfizer Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants in infectious diseases are designed to to support the career development of talented junior physician-scientists. This educational grant is nationally competitive, and chosen by an independent academic advisory board of recognized leaders in infectious diseases. Award funding is primarily intended for salary support. The applicant must demonstrate that at least 75% of his or her professional time will be devoted to research. Proposals involving head-to-head clinical trials or veterinary health will not be considered. Interdisciplinary and translational research proposals are encouraged.
