Historically, applicants must be in the first three years of their assistant professor position to apply.
• Due to COVID-19-related research disruptions, we are adding an additional year of eligibility so that individuals in the first four years of their assistant professor position are eligible to apply.
For the upcoming 2024 grant cycle, the application opens on June 12, 2023, and individuals must not have been appointed as an assistant professor at any institution prior to June 13, 2019, whether or not such an appointment was on a tenure track. Exceptions are outlined on our program website.

Description
The Pew scholars program supports assistant professors of outstanding promise in science relevant to the advancement of human health. The current grant level is $300,000; $75,000 per year for a four-year period. For the 2024 award, one nomination will be invited from each of the participating institutions listed at the bottom of this page.
Eligibility for the 2024 Award
Candidates must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
Hold a doctorate in biomedical sciences, medicine, or a related field, including engineering or the physical sciences.
As of Sept. 7, 2023, run an independent lab and hold a full-time appointment at the rank of assistant professor. (Appointments such as research assistant professor, adjunct assistant professor, assistant professor research track, visiting professor, or instructor are not eligible).
Must not have been appointed as an assistant professor at any institution prior to June 12, 2019, whether or not such an appointment was on a tenure track. Time spent in clinical internships, residencies, in work toward board certification, or on parental leave does not count as part of this four-year limit. Candidates who need an exception on the four-year limit should contact Pew’s program office to ensure that application reviewers are aware an exception has been given.

May apply to the program a maximum of two times. All applicants must be nominated by their institution and must complete the 2024 online application.
If applicants have appointments at more than one eligible nominating institution or affiliate, they may not reapply in a subsequent year from a different nominating entity.
May not be nominated for the Pew Scholars Program and the Pew-Stewart Scholars Program for Cancer Research in the same year.
Based on their performance during their education and training, candidates should demonstrate outstanding promise as contributors in science relevant to human health. This program does not fund clinical trials research. Strong proposals will incorporate particularly creative and pioneering approaches to basic, translational, and applied biomedical research. Candidates whose work is based on biomedical principles but who bring in concepts and theories from more diverse fields are encouraged to apply.
Ideas with the potential to produce an unusually high impact are encouraged. Selection of the successful candidates will be based on a detailed description of the work that the applicant proposes to undertake, evaluations of the candidate’s performance, and notable past accomplishments, including honors, awards, and publications. In evaluating the candidates, the National Advisory Committee gives considerable weight to both the project proposal and the researcher, including evidence that the candidate is a successful independent investigator and has the skill set needed to carry out their high-impact proposal.
Funding from the NIH, other government sources, and project grants from nonprofit associations do not pose a conflict with the Pew scholars program. Description
The Network Challenge is a grant program designed to seed and support initiatives that promote public interest in technology at the university level. The PIT University Network Challenge seeks to encourage new ideas, foster collaborations, and incentivize resource and information sharing among Network members. The Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN) Challenge seeks to encourage new ideas, foster collaborations, and incentivize resource- and information-sharing among a national network of universities working to create a robust Public Interest Technology field. In 2022, PIT-UN's fourth year, 18 proposals from 48 institutions were awarded a total of $2.3 million in grant funds to further develop a research community and workforce as passionate about public interest as they are about developing breakthrough technologies.
In 2023, the Challenge will build on this foundation by focusing on two specific areas: Educational Offerings, especially those that foster cross-disciplinary perspectives, and Career Pipeline/Placement efforts to develop the Public Interest Technology workforce in government, industry, and social impact organizations.

There is a limit to the number of proposals a PIT-UN Network university can submit:
New Network members (2022 cohort) can submit a total of three (3) proposals for new projects, only one of which can fall within the funding Tranche 2 (up to $180,000).

The purpose of the Higher Education Multicultural Scholars Program (MSP), Assistance Listing
10.220, is to provide scholarships to support recruiting, engaging, retaining, mentoring, and
training committed multicultural scholars, resulting in either baccalaureate degrees within the food and agricultural science disciplines or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degrees.
The goals and objectives of the scholarships are to encourage outstanding students from groups
that are historically underrepresented and underserved to pursue and complete baccalaureate
degrees in food and agricultural sciences, or achieve a D.V.M., that would lead to a diverse and
highly skilled work force. This may or may not include the teaching and preservation of
traditional ecological knowledge.

The DoD and the Nation need the best scientists and engineers to sustain defense capabilities, and recognize that this can only be accomplished through partnerships with, and support of, Institutions of Higher Education (IHE). The DoD will address this need by supporting innovative research and education programs that encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), particularly at covered educational institutions.
The CCDC ARL invites applications from covered educational institutions for research and education programs that will meet the following objectives:
a. Enhance research and engineering capabilities in areas important to national defense;
b. Increase the number of graduates in STEM disciplines; and
c. Encourage research and education collaborations with other institutions of higher education and with defense organizations.
Support for research, development, testing, evaluation, or educational enhancements will be through the competitive awarding of grants or cooperative agreements.

Description
The Equipment Grants Program (EGP) serves to increase access to shared-use special purpose
equipment/instruments for fundamental and applied research for use in the food and agricultural
sciences programs at institutions of higher education, including State Cooperative Extension
Systems. The program seeks to strengthen the quality and expand the scope of fundamental and
applied research at eligible institutions, by providing them with opportunities to acquire one
shared-use piece of equipment/instrument that supports their research, research training, and
extension goals and may be too costly and/or not appropriate for support through other NIFA
grant programs. EGP grants are not intended to replace requests for equipment in individual
project applications. The program emphasizes shared-use instrumentation that will enhance the
capabilities of researchers, educators, and extension specialists both within and outside the
proposing organization.
Proposals to the EGP must involve acquisition of a single, well-integrated piece of
equipment/instrument. Well-integrated means that the ensemble of equipment that defines the
instrument enables specific fundamental or applied research experiments in the food and
agricultural sciences, including data science and data systems; separating or removing an
element or component of such an integrated instrument would preclude that research from
occurring or succeeding. An instrument acquired with support from EGP is expected to be fully
operational by the conclusion of the first year of the project.
The EGP does not support the acquisition of suites of equipment (i.e., common, general purpose
ancillary equipment) to outfit research laboratories/facilities or to conduct independent
experiments simultaneously. Similarly, the EGP does not fund common, general purpose
ancillary equipment that would normally be found in a laboratory and/or is relatively easily
procured by the organization or through other NIFA grant programs. Rather, it is intended to
help fund items of equipment that will upgrade infrastructure. Moreover, EGP does not fund
research projects, including research that uses the equipment acquired with support from the
program, nor building or modifying facilities to house the equipment.
In FY2023, EGP will support the installation of equipment (but not the costs associated with
building or modifying facilities to house the equipment), equipment warranty for the duration of
the award, and one-time equipment use training.
The amount available for support of this program in FY 2023 is approximately $4,800,000.

The purpose of the program is to strengthen the institutional base of the humanities by enabling infrastructure development and capacity building. Awards of federal matching funds aim to help institutions secure long-term support for their core activities and expand efforts to preserve and create access to outstanding humanities materials.
Capital Projects support the purchase, design, construction, restoration, or renovation of facilities for humanities activities. This includes costs related to planning as well as the purchase and installation of related moveable and permanently affixed equipment for exhibiting, maintaining, monitoring, and protecting collections (whether on exhibit or in storage), and for critical building systems, such as electrical, heating ventilation and air conditioning, security, life safety, lighting, utilities, telecommunications, and energy management.
Fundraising is a critical part of NEH Challenge grant awards: up to 10 percent of total funds (NEH federal matching funds plus certified gifts) may be used for fundraising costs during the period of performance.

The goal of the Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) program is to develop a diverse pool of undergraduates who complete their baccalaureate degree, and transition into and complete biomedical, research-focused higher degree programs (e.g., Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.). This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) provides support to eligible, domestic institutions to develop and implement effective, evidence-informed approaches to biomedical training and mentoring that will keep pace with the rapid evolution of the research enterprise. NIGMS expects that the proposed research training programs will incorporate didactic, research, mentoring, and career development elements to prepare trainees for the completion of research-focused higher degree programs in biomedical fields. This program is limited to applications from training programs at baccalaureate degree-granting research-intensive institutions (i.e., those with an average of NIH Research Project Grant funding greater than or equal to $7.5 million total costs over the last 3 fiscal years).
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) does not allow appointed trainees to lead an independent clinical trial but does allow them to obtain research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor.
