Title NIH Director's Early Independence Awards (DP5) Agencies National Institutes of Health (NIH) Description The NIH Director's Early Independence Award supports exceptional junior investigators who wish to pursue independent research soon after completion of their terminal doctoral degree or post-graduate clinical training, thereby forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training period and accelerating their entry into an independent research career. For the program to support the best possible researchers and research, applications are sought which reflect the full diversity of the research workforce. Individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups and from the full spectrum of eligible institutions in all geographic locations, are strongly encouraged to apply to this Funding Opportunity Announcement. In addition, applications in all topics relevant to the broad mission of NIH are welcome, including, but not limited to, topics in the behavioral, social, biomedical, applied, and formal sciences and topics that may involve basic, translational, or clinical research. Title CHRB Grants Program - FY 2023-2024 Agencies Commonwealth Health Research Board (CHRB) Description The Commonwealth Health Research Board (CHRB or Board) was created by Virginia Code §32.1-162.23 to provide financial support—in the form of grants, donations, or other assistance— for research efforts having the potential of maximizing human health benefits for the citizens of the Commonwealth. Research efforts eligible for support by the Board shall include traditional medical and biomedical research relating to the causes and cures of diseases, as well as research related to health services and the delivery of health care. Since its inception, the CHRB has made 275 grant awards totaling almost $23.7 million in grant funding to institutions of higher education and other Virginia not-for-profit or nonprofit organizations that conduct health, or health-related research in Virginia. Title Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics Agencies Greenwall Foundation Description The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable junior faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. It supports research that goes beyond current work in bioethics to help resolve pressing ethical issues in clinical, biomedical, and public health decision-making, policy, and practice, and creates a community that enhances future bioethics research by Scholars and Alumni/ae. Each year, the Foundation selects approximately three Greenwall Faculty Scholars to receive 50 percent salary support for three years to enable them to carry out a specific research proposal and develop their research program. Scholars and Alumni/ae attend twice-yearly meetings, where they present their works in progress, receive feedback and mentoring from the Faculty Scholars Program Committee and other Scholars and Alumni/ae, and have the opportunity to develop collaborations with other researchers. Ongoing involvement of Alumni/ae with the Program provides continued opportunities for professional development and feedback, and engages them in mentoring of junior Scholars. The Program Committee provides oversight and direction for the Program and is involved not only with selection of the Scholars but also with mentoring and professional development activities. Title WiSTEM2D Scholars Award Program Agencies Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Description e Scholars Award is a three-year award in the gross amount of $150,000, which will be paid to the University (the “Recipient”) for the benefit of the Johnson & Johnson Scholar and her research, with the understanding that the Recipient will administer the funds. The Scholars Award will be paid in three (3) installments of U.S. $50,000 per year of the three-year scholarship period, payable in 2022, subject to compliance with the terms and conditions of the program’s Agreement. Winners achievements will also be showcased at a symposium. The following award criteria applies: Standards for evaluation: Judges will use the following criteria to evaluate the applications: Scientific/technical expertise exhibited Novelty/innovation of the research Potential impact of the research Feasibility of the research You must be a woman working in the field(s) of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Manufacturing and Design (STEM2D). Targeted are laboratory research core facilities, animal research facilities, and other similar shared-use research spaces. The goal of this FOA is to strengthen research-auxiliary activities of biomedical research facilities and to enhance the efficiency of their operations. This FOA does not support the purchase of scientific research instruments or their components, nor components of building-level infrastructure equipment that indirectly support research activities. Sloan Description These two-year, $75,000 fellowships are awarded yearly to early career researchers in recognition of distinguished performance and a unique potential to make substantial contributions to their field. Title Parker B. Francis Fellowship Program Agencies Description The Parker B. Francis Fellowship provides research support to clinical and basic scientists embarking on careers in clinical, laboratory or translational science related to Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at a U.S. or Canadian university or research institution. The ideal candidate is one with evidence of strong aptitude in research and who is in transition from post-doctoral trainee to independent investigator. It is essential that there be evidence of accomplishment and proficiency in research. Few applicants who are just beginning research training and have only one or two research publications are funded. Applicants are eligible to apply for a PBF Fellowship if at the time of application they are: 1. Scientists holding a relevant doctoral degree (e.g., M.D., Ph.D., Sc.D., D.V.M., Dr. P.H.) who are embarking on a career in clinical, laboratory or translational science related to Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at a U.S. or Canadian university or research institution. 2. A citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. or Canada or or holder of a Visa that spans the entire project period of the grant. 3. A Ph.D. or other non-M.D. scientist no more than seven years beyond completion of their doctoral degree or an M.D. scientist no more than seven years beyond clinical training (i.e., residency, internship, clinical fellowship) at the time of application. Candidates with greater than seven years since the doctoral degree require approval for continued training from the Scientific Director of the PBF Fellowship Program. 4. Applicants must be approved by their department to apply for the PBF Fellowship. Institutions may have no more than three Parker B. Francis Fellows in a single department at a given time, a department may submit nor more than two applications annually, and a mentor may sponsor only one application annually. 5. Individuals are not eligible for a PBF Fellowship if, at the time of application, they are or have been principal investigator on an NIH K or R series research award or other nationally competitive research award at the comparable level. 6. If a PBF Fellow receives an NIH K or Research Award or any nationally competitive grant at a similar level, at any point on or after the start date of the PBF award, the amount of the award will be changed per the Allowable Cost policy. Anyone wishing to submit a proposal for one of these programs should click on the appropriate link in the list above. To expedite the process of planning an internal competition, please submit your notice of intent as soon as you know you have an interest in the funding program. You are only required to include the name of the Principal Investigator, any co-PI's, and the subject or title of the proposed project.
