Institutional Training for a Dental and Craniofacial Research Workforce (T90/R90)
Agencies
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Description
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) will award T90/R90 grants to eligible institutions that are committed to supporting predoctoral and postdoctoral research training as a means to help ensure that a diverse and highly trained workforce is available to address the nation's health related needs in dental, oral, and craniofacial research. This NIDCR program is designed in recognition of the need to develop a cadre of highly qualified independent scientists who can successfully address basic, behavioral, and clinical research questions to improve oral, dental and craniofacial health. Trainees are required to pursue full-time research training. Priority will be given to programs that present plans and evidence that they will train dentist scientists either as predoctoral dual degree dentist scientists, dentists receiving PhD training or dentists training in a postdoctoral research experience.

Agencies
United States Department of State (DOS)
Description
The Cultural Programs Division, within the Office of Citizen Exchanges of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, announces an open competition for a cooperative agreement to administer the 2010-2012 cycle of the DanceMotion USA Program. The program's goal is to showcase the best of American dance and provide an opportunity to directly engage priority audiences in foreign countries. The program will consist of approximately four to six tours by approximately the same number of United States dance companies, whose repertoires are representative of American culture (e.g., contemporary, jazz, hip hop, tap.) In addition to public performances, overseas tours will include public workshops, master classes, lecture-demonstrations, outreach activities and interaction with local youth in a wide variety of venues and settings. Priority audiences are those who do not have regular access to American culture, including underserved and younger populations. Of particular interest to the bureau is engaging youth and underserved populations through programs in American dance.

Improvements to Biological Research Collections (BRC)
Agencies
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Description
The BRC program provides funds for improvements to network, secure, and organize established natural history collections for sustained, accurate, and efficient accessibility of the collection to the biological research community. The program is encouraging collaborative proposals to network collections on regional and continental scales, especially collaborations that bring large and small collections together into networks. The program also provides for enhancements to existing collections to improve collections, computerize specimen-related data, develop better methods of specimen curation and collection management through activities such as symposia and workshops. Biological collections supported include those housing natural history specimens and jointly curated collections such as preserved tissues and other physical samples, e.g., DNA libraries and digital images. Such collections provide the materials necessary for research across broad areas of biological sciences.

Submission Limits
In any single round only one proposal may be submitted from any individual collection within an organization. Organizations that house multiple collections, submitting proposals from more than one collection, should engage in internal planning activities in order to prioritize the needs of the several collections such that the organization does not submit multiple proposals to any one BRC competition.

Industry/University Cooperative Research Centers (I/UCRC) Program - NSF 09-565
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
The I/UCRC program develops long-term partnerships among industry, academe, and government. The centers are catalyzed by a small investment from the NSF and are primarily supported by industry center members, with NSF taking a supporting role in the development and evolution of the center. Each center is established to conduct research that is of interest to both the industry members and the center faculty. An I/UCRC not only contributes to the USA's research infrastructure base and enhances the intellectual capacity of the engineering and science workforce through the integration of research and education, but also encourages and fosters international cooperation and collaborative projects. The participating NSF agencies are the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) and the Industrial Innovation and Partnerships (IIP) in the Directorate for Engineering (ENG).

Submission Limits
Grantee institutions that have an active single university I/UCRC award are not eligible to apply for another single university center; however, they may apply for a multi-university center. Any institution may submit multiple multi-university center proposals provided that the proposed research topics involve different disciplines and support different industries. A center site may only apply for one Phase II (years 6 through 10) and one Phase III (years 11 through 15) proposal. Graduated centers who have successfully completed a Phase II award within the last 10 years may apply for one Phase III award.

Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM)
Agencies
National Science Foundation (NSF)
Description
This program makes grants to institutions of higher education to support scholarships for academically talented, financially needy students, enabling them to enter the workforce following completion of an associate, baccalaureate, or graduate level degree in science and engineering disciplines. Grantee institutions are responsible for selecting scholarship recipients, reporting demographic information about student scholars, and managing the S-STEM project at the institution.
The S-STEM program emphasizes the importance of recruiting students to science and engineering disciplines, mentoring and supporting students through degree completion, and partnering with employers to facilitate student career placement in the STEM workforce. Participating institutions are expected to support the goals of the S-STEM program including
- improved educational opportunities for students;
- increased retention of students to degree achievement;
- improved student support programs at institutions of higher education; and

Trans-Saharan Professionals Program
Agencies
United States Department of State (DOS)
Description
The Office of Citizen Exchanges of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA/PE/C) announces an open competition for grants to conduct one of three professional exchange programs in the Trans-Sahara Africa Region. The Office anticipates awarding separate grants to three different organizations, one for each of the three themes presented in this announcement. Proposals are invited that support the goals of the Trans-Saharan Professionals Program. These goals, which encompass both bureau and programmatic goals, are (1) to provide foreign participants from eligible countries an opportunity for professional development through three- to four-week study tours and internships in the USA; (2) to provide U.S. participants the opportunity to share their professional expertise with counterparts in eligible countries while also learning from them; (3) to promote mutual understanding and partnerships between key professional groups in the United States and counterpart groups in eligible countries with a plan for working relationships to continue well beyond the period of ECA funding; and (4) encourage mass media to report on the program to a wider audience. Proposed projects should be two-way exchanges involving participants from both the USA and foreign countries traveling to each others' countries. Each project should contribute to the strengthening of civil society where it is carried out. Participants in these projects will be provided professional learning programs that will enhance their careers with the expectation that they will contribute their expertise to the program.
Eligible applicants may only propose working with the countries and themes listed under each of the themes of this RFGP. No funding is available exclusively to send U.S. citizens to conferences or conference type seminars overseas; nor is funding available for bringing foreign nationals to conferences or to routine professional association meetings in the United States.
Specific grant awards will be made for Professional Fellowships to be carried out in the following themes and countries:
1. Elections Fellows
2. Business Development Fellows
3. Leadership Fellows

Description
In his December 1, 2009, speech in West Point, New York, President Obama said that a new diplomatic initiative in Afghanistan would be part of the U.S. strategy to bring peace and stability in the Afghanistan/Pakistan region. As part of this initiative, ECA is seeking proposals for a new program, called "The U.S./Afghanistan Professional Partnership Program." This program will bring young professionals from the two countries together to develop cross cultural relationships and develop professional skills that will positively impact people's lives and will result in stronger ties between the two nations. The project is focused on professionals working in the judicial system and public administration and will be designed to demonstrate best practices, offer professional development opportunities, and support internships at U.S.-based workplaces for Afghan professionals. The program will involve provincial and district (state, local) public administration officials, district attorney offices, legal aid offices, case workers, and judges where possible.
