Title International Science and Education Grants Program Agencies United States Department of Agriculture Description The purpose of the International Science and Education (ISE) Grants Program is to support the internationalization of food, agriculture, and related programs at United States universities and colleges. It is intended that ISE will improve the ability of American students, business people, and community members to compete more effectively in the global world of agriculture. ISE projects are designed to strengthen the global competence and competitiveness of American colleges, universities and businesses in the food, agriculture, and related sectors. In addition, ISE projects must be directed to agricultural research, extension, and teaching activities that enhance the capabilities of American colleges and universities to conduct international collaborative research, extension and teaching. Proposals should demonstrate how the proposed work responds to the specific needs and strengths of the university or college in addressing the following areas: 1. Strengthening the Global Competence of Students, Faculty, and Staff in Agriculture and Related Areas Students, faculty, and staff should clearly understand international factors that affect United States food and agriculture, and faculty and staff should convey an understanding of the international dimensions of agricultural and related sciences to students. Areas of emphasis may include but are not limited to - planning, implementing and evaluating initiatives that enhance the international content of the curricula in colleges and universities so as to ensure that United States students acquire an understanding of the international dimensions and trade implication of their studies; - ensuring that United States scientists, extension agents, and educators convey the implications of their international findings to students, peers and other users in the United States; or - enhancing the capabilities of colleges and universities to conduct collaborative research with other countries, in cooperation with other Federal agencies, on issues relevant to United States agricultural performance. 2. Enhancing Business Performance in International Agriculture and Related Sectors Through extension, research or teaching programs, enhance the ability of American agricultural producers, marketers and others in the agricultural community to operate effectively in the global arena. Supportable activities include but are not limited to - enhancing the capabilities of United States colleges and universities to provide cooperative extension education that promotes the application of new technology developed in foreign countries to United States agriculture; or enhancing the capability of United States colleges and universities, in cooperation with other federal agencies, to provide leadership and education programs in market identification, international trade policies, new or existing markets, and production efficiencies. Such programs should strengthen the ability of American natural resources and food production, processing, and distribution businesses and industries to compete internationally. 	The program is open to academic institutions in the States, Districts, and Territories of the United States of America that grant a bachelor's or higher degree in the chemical sciences, including biochemistry, materials chemistry, and chemical engineering. Nominees must hold a full-time tenure-track academic appointment, and are normally expected to have been appointed no earlier than mid-year 2005. Awardees are from Ph.D. granting departments in which scholarly research is a principal activity. Undergraduate education is an important component of the nominee's activities. Institutions may submit only one Camille Dreyfus nomination annually.

Title Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award Agencies Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation Description The award supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers. Criteria for selection include an independent body of scholarship attained within the first five years of their appointment as independent researchers, and a demonstrated commitment to education, signaling the promise of continuing outstanding contributions to both research and teaching. The award provides a $75,000 unrestricted research grant. Of the total amount, $7,500 is for departmental expenses associated with research and education. Charges associated with indirect costs or institutional overhead are not allowed. Defrayal of academic-year salary is not permitted. Funds are normally expended over a period of five years. Foundation approval is not required for budgetary changes after an award is made. If the awardee leaves the institution, the transfer of the remaining funds requires prior Foundation approval. Title Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI) Agencies National Science Foundation (NSF) Description The Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI) catalyzes new knowledge and discoveries by empowering the Nation’s scientists and engineers with state-of-the-art research instrumentation. The MRI Program enables research-intensive learning environments that promote the development of a diverse workforce and next generation instrumentation, as well as facilitates academic/private sector partnerships. Among the goals of the MRI Program are: * Supporting the acquisition of major state-of-the-art instrumentation, thereby improving access to, and increased use of, modern research and research training instrumentation by a diverse workforce of scientists, engineers, and graduate and undergraduate students; * Fostering the development of the next generation of instrumentation, resulting in new instruments that are more widely used, and/or open up new areas of research and research training; * Enabling academic departments, disciplinary and cross-disciplinary units, and multi-organization collaborations to create well-equipped research environments that integrate research with education; * Supporting the acquisition and development of instrumentation that contributes to, or takes advantage of, existing investments in cyberinfrastructure, while avoiding duplication of services already provisioned by NSF investments; * Promoting substantive and meaningful partnerships for instrument development between the academic and private sectors. Such partnerships have the potential to build capacity for instrument development in academic settings and to create new products with wide scientific and commercial impact. To ensure a balanced instrumentation award portfolio at diverse organizations, across varied research topics, and in support of a broadly inclusive science and engineering workforce across the entire Nation, the MRI program requires that an organization may, as a performing organization, submit or be included as a significantly funded subawardee in no more than three MRI proposals. To promote instrumentation development, the program requires that if an organization submits or is included as a significantly funded subawardee in three MRI proposals, at least one of the three proposals must be for instrument development. NSF reserves the right to carefully examine development proposals to ensure that they meet the requirements for this proposal type (Section II). If a proposal submitted as development is deemed to be an acquisition proposal, the proposal will be returned without review if any of the organizations involved have already submitted two acquisition proposals. An unfunded collaboration does not count against the submission limit. Inclusion as a funded subawardee on a development proposal at a level in excess of 20% of the total budget request from NSF, or on any acquisition proposal, will be counted against an organization's proposal submission limit. 	This funding opportunity will use the T90/R90 mechanism that includes linked research training and research education programs. Sixteen Institutes and Centers (ICs) are participating in the Blueprint. This funding opportunity will enable the development of novel, interdisciplinary training programs that integrate comprehensive training in basic neuroscience, the physical and biological bases of neuroimaging, the technologies of in vivo neuroimaging, and the application of these technologies to understanding questions in neuroscience across the life span. Each training program must have two components: (a) a predoctoral NRSA institutional training program (T90) and (b) a short-term research education program (R90) that may include scientists at any stage of the career continuum who are interested in neuroimaging.
